Confidence Games: Our First Offshore Run

As told by David Clubbs, VP of Engineering for Regulator Marine

Coming off the Miami Boat Show, we ran the 35 north through some weather to Fort Lauderdale. Over the next few days, there was a pretty serious front coming through that would keep us off the water, but we saw a narrow window for some offshore testing before the weather turned, so we headed out…and man was it blowing.

We needed to get into water depth over 600 feet to test transducers and Bluewater functions. We had the gulf stream running north 3 to 3.5 knots, and as the wind built from NW to NE, the seas just started stacking up. The farther we went, the taller and tighter the waves got – but no matter what the conditions threw, the 35 handled it with confidence.

So we decided to just put the throttles down and let her eat.

We were running the boat over 40 knots for hours – regardless of conditions – and we just kept running faster, because we could. I had two salty, lifelong boaters and industry veterans on board, and it became kind of game…trying to find rattles and squeaks, trying to lose prime on sea chest. We had the livewell and A/C running and then switched to heat and ducked behind the windshield as the front started rolling in.

It’s a funny thing to plan and build a boat and wear my engineer’s hat for over 2 years to make this boat everything it should be…and then head out as a boater and fisherman and just get to enjoy it. The ride was smooth, dry, and predictable – just as every Regulator is and should be. And no matter what sea state built to, the re-entry was so smooth. The boat just kept giving us more and more confidence.

We’re headed back for customer sea trials next week – can’t wait.

REGULATOR 35 LAUNCHES AT MIAMI INTERNATIONAL BOAT SHOW

Game-Changing Design, High Tech Systems and the Unbeatable Regulator Ride indicate a New Icon is Set to Take the Center Console Market by Storm

(Edenton, NC) February 12, 2025 – Regulator Marine unveiled the Regulator 35 at the Discover Boating Miami International Boat Show today, with game-changing features and design engineered for a new generation of Regulator center consoles. Two years of research, development, testing and consumer insights have yielded a mid-size offshore sportfisher that delivers everything center console buyers demand, all with Regulator’s unyielding dedication to quality, fit-and-finish, and ride.

“Every new model introduction gives us the chance to level up our offering to Regulator owners and fans,” said Joan Maxwell, president and co-founder of Regulator Marine. “The Regulator 35 carries a spirit that has driven the design of our center console boats since day one… ‘why not have it all?’ We have worked closely with new and existing partners to bring our customers every innovation and feature they have asked for, along with some things they may not expect!”

Powered by Triple Yamaha Offshore F350s with Helm Master™ EX Joystick and equipped with a standard Seakeeper Ride 750 Ride Control System designed for boats 37-42 feet, this 40-plus-foot center console lives and performs well outside its 35 moniker. A look down the center line of the Regulator 35 showcases the key design features of the boat, but it’s the systems and build that lie beneath the surface that truly define the company’s latest model.

Here’s a look at the key elements of the all-new Regulator 35.

Key Design Features

    • Power-packed aft deck gets you closer to the fish with an Oval Pressurized Center Transom Livewell and slimmed down port and starboard transom with Blue Water Bait Stations. Dual Flip-Down Transom Seats port and starboard mean that you don’t lose a bit of seating on the aft deck.
    • New T-Top design features a Custom Ventilation System for Maximum Air Distribution and Mist Elimination – plus elimination of in-windshield vents for greater visibility. Plus, new T-Top Drainage Gutters also served as an integrated T-Top Handrail.
    • Triple Helm Station with Raised Deck, Center-Set Wheel, and Angled Garmin® 9000 Series Screens deliver the ultimate command center, designed for maximum visibility and ease – whether working the fish or entertaining the family. Regulator MyHelm™ Interface offers Seamless and Intuitive Connectivity of Key Functions.
    • Split Forward Seating with Walkthrough to Bow gives more leverage for forward deck fish fighting, with the option for a Flush-Folding Center Forward Seat to create wraparound comfort when you need it. A new Raised Bullnose Toe rail adds confidence when fishing from the extra-wide gunwale decks, plus a beautiful sportfish look.
    • A single 405-gallon fuel tank sits at the center of the Regulator 35, with dual fills port and starboard, to deliver terrific range and a consistent center of gravity regardless of fuel level. Just aft of the fuel tank sits a fully equipped Machine Room with watertight bulkhead.
    • Custom Console Interior delivers an elevated design packed with functionality including sleeping accommodations for two with inventive berth extension, Stand-Up Electric Head and Sink, and unprecedented cabin storage, plus custom-designed Regulator 35 Sunbrella® Interior Curtains, Accent Pillows, and Super Soft, Weather-Resistant Throw developed in collaboration with the Sunbrella design team exclusively for the Regulator 35.

New Systems

  • NEW Dometic DG3 Gyro Stabilizer (optional) – As the first recreational boating brand to carry this new technology, Regulator is bringing industry-leading performance and energy efficiency to Regulator 35 owners, with faster spin times, less maintenance, and lower power draw.
  • E-Hub Lithium Battery System (standard) – As another first-to-market systems integration with Dometic Marine, the E-Hub Lithium Battery System extends time on the water, cuts the fumes, and allows boaters and anglers to fish for hours while running the gyro and Garmins or let the family out at the sandbar while still running the A/C or watching the game.
  • Military-Grade Sea Chest (standard) – The Sea Chest used by unmanned U.S. Navy Drone Boats is now standard on the Regulator 35. Whether offshore or at the sandbar, this Self-Cleaning and Self-Flushing system protects your raw water systems autonomously – and means Regulator 35 owners will never clean a raw water strainer again.
  • New Self-Bailing Cockpit System (standard) features Transom-Mounted Stainless-Steel Scuppers with Drip-Edge and removable 35-branded grates for a clean, custom look.

Ms. Maxwell closed by saying, “We are so proud of this boat! Our team of experts has done an incredible job of delivering exciting new features while never sacrificing the fundamentals Regulator is known for – ultimate reliability, pristine fit-and-finish, and an unbeatable ride.”

As ever, the Regulator 35 is set to provide more standards than any center console in its class, with an MSRP of $674,995.
